Scottish Oak Whisky Quaich (Large)

£80.00

Traditional handcrafted oak quaich

Availability: 3 in stock

Derived from the Gaelic “cuach” meaning cup, the Quaich was a simple drinking vessel traditionally made of wood. Uniquely Scottish and designed to share with two handles or ‘lugs’, it was used across the Scottish Highlands as a sign of friendship to provide a welcoming whisky to visitors or guests.

This traditional quaich has been cut from a beautiful single piece of locally sourced oak before being hand turned on a lathe. The quaich was then sanded and finished with pure tung oil, which is water proof, non toxic and food safe. A final coat containing natural wax and oil has been applied to both protect and highlight the stunning grain.

Since the 16th century the humble quaich has featured in wedding ceremonies where the bride and groom share a drink from the same cup symbolising both trust and intimacy. Building on the nature of sharing, quaichs are often passed around the wedding party allowing each person to take a sip of its contents as a symbol of sharing in the couple’s love and happiness.

Each quaich will hold approximately 100ml which should be enough for a couple of drams !!

Due to the individual and hand crafted nature of each piece, all sizes are approximate. Each quaich is handcrafted from natural products and while we try extremely hard to ensure our photos are clear, detailed and accurate the product’s colour and grain pattern may vary slightly from those shown.
