Scottish Oak Whisky Quaich engraved with Celtic Heart Knot (Medium)

£70.00

Traditional handcrafted Scottish oak whisky quaich personalised and engraved with a Celtic Heart Knot design

Availability: 1 in stock

Derived from the Gaelic “cuach” meaning cup, the quaich was a simple drinking vessel traditionally made of wood. Uniquely Scottish and designed to share with two handles or ‘lugs’, it was used across the Scottish Highlands as a sign of friendship to provide a welcoming whisky to visitors or guests.

The quaich has been cut from a beautiful single piece of locally sourced oak before being hand turned on a lathe, sanded and finished with pure tung oil, which is water proof, non toxic and food safe. The quaich has then been engraved with a beautiful interlaced Celtic knot design before the application of natural wax and oil finish to both protect and highlight the stunning grain.

Since the 16th century, the humble quaich has played a role in Scottish wedding ceremonies, where the happy couple share a drink from the same cup as a symbol of trust, unity and intimacy. In keeping with the tradition of sharing, the quaich is often passed amongst the wedding party, allowing each guest to take a sip in celebration of the couple’s happiness and future together.

Each quaich holds approximately 50ml — enough for a generous dram.

Due to the individual and handmade nature of each piece, all sizes are approximate. Each quaich is handcrafted from natural products and while we try extremely hard to ensure our photos are clear, detailed and accurate the product’s colour and grain pattern may vary slightly from those shown.
